Lisa and her family were in town for her sister Kara's wedding (blog post coming soon!) and decided to get some family photos since it was their first time on island. We met downtown and little Matthew was smiling and ready to explore. After strolling through town we ended up at Brant Point and ended just before a little rain shower. It was truly a pleasure meeting this sweet family of three and even better that I got to see them a few days later at the wedding!
She is the newest addition to the Dreamland team, so very sweet and has one of the best smiles I've ever seen! It was such a pleasure meeting Alicia for some photos around town last week. She is the new Director of Programs at the Nantucket Dreamland and if you're planning an event or wedding, you'll have the pleasure of meeting her! Dawn & Max will be married next month here on Nantucket and we have the great pleasure of being there to photograph their special day! We met at Steps Beach on Saturday night for their engagement photos and we could not have had a more perfect night. We had discussed going to a second location but the sunset was just too pretty to leave the beach.
Max asked Dawn to marry him at the very same beach last year so this was truly a special night for them. We had so much fun and it got me even more excited for July 15th! Here are some of my favorites from the amazing evening. Cheers to Dawn & Max!
Allison and Connor's wedding is coming up this October! We met the other night out in Sconset for some spring engagement photos. We started on the gorgeous Sconset Bluff walk and then headed to Sankaty for some photos in front of the lighthouse. We shared a lot of laughs and I am so excited to see them again in just a few months for their big day. Cheers to Allison & Connor!
I had the pleasure of meeting Lauren & Henry at their engagement photo session last year. It was a beautiful fall day on Nantucket with lots of wind! We chatted about their big day and how it would be here before we knew it. They were married on a perfect foggy May day. The clouds rolled in a little before the ceremony and he rain was coming but didn't begin until everyone was warmly tucked away under the awning on the lawn of the beautiful White Elephant Hotel. We had so much fun photographing this special day! Betsey Brooks did such a lovely job decorating the tables with beautiful touches of white and green. Lauren looked like a princess in her Lovely Bride gown. It was a day to remember! Cheers to Lauren & Henry!
I first met Rachel back in 2015 when we connected over email to talk business and travel! Rachel needed some new lifestyle photos for her website so we headed out to the state forest for some new photos and ended up with a lasting friendship! Rachel is in the process of re-branding so it was time for some new photos! We headed down to Main Street and Steps Beach on a perfect May night. She was GLOWING and I just loved the outfits she chose for our session! She is a ray of sunshine and sure to put a smile on your face. I was so happy to be able to capture these photos for her!
What can't this amazing woman do?! I had the pleasure of meeting Betsey back in 2013 when I first moved to Nantucket and since then she has never ceased to amaze me. Not only is she the beautiful Mama of the most adorable twins, she also rocks a floral design business and is now a designer of some seriously cute gear for the kiddos! If you are looking for florals for your upcoming Nantucket wedding or the perfect summer outfit for your little one, Betsey does it all! You can check out her work HERE and HERE!
I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Emily Denny of Emily Nantucket this month. I just love this lady! We met on a perfect May afternoon on Ladies Beach for a mix of fun lifestyle photos. Emily brought a few props which were a perfect fit for her beach beauty vibes! Emily is a super talented Hair & Makeup Artist here on the island and one of the sweetest ladies you'll ever meet! She also recently started doing Organic spray tans which is making for magical glowing beauties all over the island! If you're here for Nantucket family photos, a Nantucket wedding or just a short visit and want to feel like a queen for the day, she's the one to see! Here are some of my favorites from our afternoon together! Did I mention how much I love her?! Contact Emily HERE!
I had the pleasure of photographing a perfectly intimate Daffy Day elopement on Nantucket last month. Meg owns a Yoga studio here on island and Dave works at the local Nantucket Boys & Girls Club. They live in a magical house surrounded by daffodils and a bamboo forest. Love surrounded every detail of the day. It was obvious and undeniable.
It was clear Meg & Dave were soulmates from the moment I met them. They were married on their back porch surrounded by their closest friends and family. It's difficult to put into words how lovely this wedding was. From the VW bug in the driveway decorated in daffodils to the way the light fell on the flowers popping up in the yard, Meg was a classic beauty. Her dress was so elegant and unique. Dave's eyes lit up when he saw her walk up to meet him. It's no surprise, she was glowing! After they said I DO Meg put a record on while their guests enjoyed champagne. We snuck out as the sun was setting for some photos around their property, in front of their favorite trees and finished the evening looking up at the moon peeking through the trees. It was a Daffy Day I will never forget! Cheers to Meg & Dave!
I met Kara and Zach at the Hub for their engagement photos. We'll be photographing their wedding this summer at the Nantucket Dreamland and we can't wait! We started our session downtown as the sun hid behind some clouds and our classic Grey Lady fog rolled in. We felt like we had the entire town to ourselves, one of the perks of off-season e-sessions. We strolled down Main Street and ended up at Old North Wharf. The docks were as empty as the streets so we headed out to the end of the wharf for some shots at the water. It was windy and very chilly but Zach and Kara were such troopers! They might have had blue hands by the time we headed back to town but we warmed them up in the car and it was worth it! We ended our session on Steps Beach. Just as we were finishing up, as they sat wrapped in a blanket the sun peeked out and we got some amazing light to end the night. It was such a beautiful night with this sweet couple. We are so looking forward to seeing them again this summer! Congratulations Kara & Zach!
As I was falling asleep last night I started to think about the last 7 days and the experiences I've had this week. I met so many strong, brave and talented women and caught up with a few of my favorite local Nantucket small business owners. I'm going to share a little bit about the week and what these brilliant women are up to!
I started the week off with Caroline Ott, one of the sweetest women I know and I am NOT just saying that! Caroline is starting a Nantucket Wedding Planning company this May! I can't begin to tell you how excited I am for her and her new endeavor! You will soon be able to check out her website and what she'll be up to this summer! Her launch date is May 1st and I might just stay up for it - I am THAT excited! Caroline's sister, Emily, owns the lovely Milly & Grace down on Washington Street. I think there is some magic within these sisters. Everything they touch comes to life, sparklers and shines. Nantucket weddings are in for an upgrade! Brides, SAVE THE DATE! (I will share more details as soon as I have them!)
The next afternoon was spent with the lovely Meg Blair-Valero, owner of Fogged In Bookkeeping. We took some detail shots for her new website coming soon and then headed downtown for some lifestyle photos and a coffee at Handlebar Cafe. It was a rainy grey lady day but that didn't stop us! Fogged In is just one of the many businesses Meg runs. She is a force to be reckoned with and an all around amazing woman. I feel so lucky to know her and call her a friend!
45 Surfside, a new cafe on the way to the beach was the next stop. I met Portia and her Mother Rebecca, owner of the Bakery/Cafe. I have been frequenting this new spot for coffees, cupcakes, breakfast and lunch so what a pleasure it was to meet these sweet ladies for some detail shots of the space and their specialties, like their brand new Icey Surfside Mocha Coffee. I haven't tried their cakes yet but I'm looking for any excuse to throw a party just so I can order one.
Friday and Saturday I photographed the Brand Human Nantucket event at the Nantucket Hotel. I don't even know where to start for this one. I of course was there to work but couldn't help absorb the creativity that was flowing throughout the ballroom. There were about 50 attendees and these 48 ladies and 2 men were the real deal. Everyone was there to hear from Jasmine Takinikos, founder and CEO of Jasmine Takinikos Consulting Group and creator of the global workshop and lecture series Brand Human and Holly Finigan, founder of Nantucket blACKbook. The event had a full lineup of successful entrepenuers including Jeannie Vincent from Follain, and Jason Bridges from Handlebar & Nantucket Bike Tours. It was a time of learning, reflecting, bouncing ideas off one another and challenging ourselves. I am truly grateful to have been a part of this event with such an inspiring group of creatives!
Sunday was the grand finale with the ladies of Grey Lady Revelry Co., a new event planning company based in Boston serving Nantucket and beyond. They had arranged a styled shoot at the lovely Greydon House. They did all of the planning and preparing. They managed to secure an ALL-STAR lineup with Emily Denny of Emily Nantucket doing hair & makeup, the lovely Dorothy Stover as our bride and the handsome Delroy Lawrence as our groom. Megan Fahy Calligraphy created a gorgeous invitation suite and jewelry was provided by Jewel In The Sea. More details to come on this magical shoot. Keep an eye out for the launch of the GLR website!
I don't usually share my weekly happenings in such detail but as I mentioned before when I recapped the week I realized what an incredible group of women business owners I had the pleasure of working with and I just had to write about it! All of them, in their own unique ways inspire me in different areas of my life and I am truly grateful to know them!
Real Talk. Getting Real. Getting Personal. Bloggers and other photographers that I follow are always encouraging the real talk to come pouring out. Share something about yourself. Bare it all. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. The truth is, at least 10 times a day I think of real life things I could write about but then think, I'm not a Mommy Blogger, I'm not supposed to talk about those things even though I'm being encouraged to on what seems to be a daily basis. So, here it is, my very first REAL TALK type post. "They" made me do it! If it does anything at all, I hope it encourages you.
(Disclaimer: this will not be edited perfectly as I'm not even sure what's going to be written yet. I guess that's the point of it being real.)
You might have seen an inspiring quote recently on Instagram...something along the lines of "You are Enough" or "Keep Going" or "Don't Quit" or "You are capable of amazing things". If you haven't seen any just go to my Instagram and scroll through my feed. They will be there. Do I post those quotes because I need to hear them myself or because I want to encourage my followers? It's both. Yesterday was a "bad" day. It's hard for me to say that because I have never been a person who allows myself to openly admit when I'm feeling defeated. If I'm having a bad day I immediately think of people who live with depression or chronic pain or who don't have access to clean water or a roof over their head (http://www.healingwaters.org/). My "bad" day quickly turns into a good day. So I guess what I mean by it being a bad day is it was a not so great day. If you're a Mom of a toddler or any aged child for that matter, you might be able to identify with me on some of the million things that go through your head on a daily basis. Here are just a few...
- I need to play with her more
- I should turn the tv off
- I should hide my phone from myself
- I should stop working so much
- I need to wake up earlier
- She needs more friends
- She needs more baths
- She needs to wear something other than her tie-dye shirt and diaper
- I need to stop giving her so much fruit
- I need to stop giving her so much sugar
- She needs more toys (she is perfectly content with the few that she has)
- We need to go outside more
- I need to stop breastfeeding her
- She would have more friends if we lived closer to family and not on an ISLAND!
Any of that sound familiar? Well, yesterday they were flooding my mind like they do from time to time especially after someone innocently asks "does she have any friends her age"? She's ONE for goodness' sake! Is she supposed to have a group of friends she meets for Sesame Street and coffee every Friday? The truth is, she is HAPPY and she is thriving and that is what matters right now. The last 16 months have been some of the best (and most challenging) of my life. I have been able to be with Willow almost every day. I've seen her grow, learn, laugh, cry and everything in between and I think everything is OK just the way it is. Things aren't always perfect and she does love her PBS shows and sometimes eats veggie sticks and raisins for lunch. One day she will have lots of friends, one day she will be playing sports, one day she will driving away from the house without giving me the huge hugs and kisses she gives me every time she sees me. At this moment in time I think my love is what she needs most and Jon and I give her A LOT of it! Some days it feels like her and my dog/son Benny have conspired against me before I wake up. One is eating the faces off of Noah's Ark animals while the other one draws in my passport with red pen (I won't tell you which one is doing what). I'll take the good days and the not so great days. I will keep going on Pinterest and searching "inspiring quotes" when I need to and I will continue to be so incredibly thankful for the life we live with our gift from above. It is SO EASY to get down on ourselves as Mothers. To think we just aren't good enough and feel guilty about not being good enough. We see the Instagram stories, the snapchats, the Facebook albums and all of the GOOD STUFF and we compare and we compete. It's really not about any of that though. It's about the love. Who can measure that? Nobody! I'll leave you with some photos of our sweet girl from the last year and a half. I made sure to include some REAL ones in there too ;) & one last thing...YOU REALLY ARE ENOUGH! Goodnight! xoxo
I had the pleasure of photographing Matt's surprise proposal on Nantucket almost two years ago. Matt went all out ~ a candlelit sunset dinner on the beach in front of the Summer House, roses lining the path and the best part, getting down on one knee and asking Shannon to be his wife. You can imagine how excited I was when they asked Jon and I to photograph their destination wedding in Punta Cana! We dropped Willow off in Maryland with my parents and jumped on a plane headed for the Dominican to start the wedding weekend. We arrived to the gorgeous Excellence Resort greeted with a glass of champagne and an escort to our room. We were so excited that we couldn't rest so we grabbed our gear and headed out to take some pictures. We were in paradise! We took some time to explore the resort, the beach and the ceremony location and of course enjoy the view. We had just missed the windy weather. It was calm and the sky was blue.
The next night was the welcome party at the Cascade Pool. There was a cigar roller, a live band, amazing food being cooked on location and plenty of pinà coladas! It was a really special time where stories were shared by friends and family, speeches were made by Matt and Shannon's fathers and to cap off the night there was a fire show on the beach. It was the perfect way to kick off the weekend!
We woke up on Saturday morning to a clear and sunny day. After a visit to the spa, Jon headed to where Matt and his guys were getting ready and I headed to the bridal suite with Shannon and the girls. This was no rushed wedding. We were on island time and it was so refreshing! After the getting ready photos, we headed out for the first look. Jon and I had searched for the perfect spot the day before and we decided on a secluded path surrounded by palm trees and the perfect amount of light. It was such a beautiful moment when Matt turned around to see his stunning bride for the first time. He was speechless as he wiped away happy tears.
The wedding was on the beach with cocktail hour to follow and the reception was also on the beach under the palm trees. Matt and Shannon danced the night away with 75 of their closest friends and family. It was an absolutely epic day from start to finish! We were so incredibly honored to be a part of their incredible wedding weekend. Matt and Shannon are one of the sweetest couples we've ever met. They were always making sure everyone had what they needed. They are so in love and we can't wait to see what the future holds for them! Cheers to Matt & Shannon!

When Grace asked me to photograph her wedding day I was so excited and honored. Grace and I grew up going to school together and she is a true friend who I love dearly! I am so incredibly happy for her and Evan. They were married on March 5th at a beautiful farm in Middletown, Delaware. The sun was out and it was a gorgeous day even though it was a bit cold. The barn was perfectly decorated with twinkling lights and pinks and greens. It was truly a special day witnessing Grace and Evan make promises to each other. I don't know if I've ever seen a couple more excited to hear "You may now kiss the bride". After the ceremony, we headed outside for family photos and some bride and groom portraits. Grace had so many fun ideas for photos. The night finished with a lot of dancing, a sparkler exit and the newlyweds waving goodbye! It was such a perfect day! Love you Grace & Evan! xoxo
Last night I met Jenna and Dave downtown for their engagement session. It's off season and vacation week here on Nantucket so it felt like we had the entire town to ourselves! The sun was peeking through the clouds as we headed down Main Street towards the docks. After a quick outfit change we headed to Madaket where the sun put on a magical show for us! Here are a few highlights from our session. How radiant is Jenna's smile!?!
Jenna's Hair & Makeup was done by the talented Emily Nantucket!
I would say THE best thing about being a Nantucket wedding and portrait photographer is the people you meet - clients and local creatives who make this island an exciting, enjoyable and fulfilling place to live! Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Rachel, Taylor & Kiri at Steps Beach for some lifestyle and branding photos. Rachel runs the Nantucket Organic Juice and Food shop, Lemon Press - one of my favorite shops on island! From their waffles, grab and go salads to their smoothies and acai bowls, I could eat 3 meals a day here. Yes, it's all THAT good! This season, they will offering brides special juice cleanse packages with add-ons like an organic mobile spray tan from Kiri at Sun Tan Van ACK, yoga with Evie Yoga and more! Keep an eye out for more information on these packages! I'll be sure to share them here as soon as the details are ready! In the meantime, please enjoy some of the images from our session with these gorgeous ladies!
Thankful, grateful, blessed…just a few of the words to describe how we felt as 2016 came to a close. We met so many amazing people, had the pleasure of photographing returning clients who have now become our friends and spent our first full year with our baby girl. She has grown so much! We owe all of our happy feelings to you, our clients, our friends! THANK YOU! Thank you for trusting us to capture a few of the sweetest memories that will no doubt last a lifetime! We don't know how 2017 will be able to top this year but we're moving into it full steam ahead with our first two weddings of the season this March! We are excited to announce that I will officially be a full-time wedding and portrait photographer! Saying goodbye to my day job as Programs Manager for Nantucket Community Sailing was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. Lots of time and prayer went into this big decision and we are ready for this new chapter in our lives! We will continue to pour our hearts into doing what we love for our clients, family and friends. Thank you for an incredible year! We'll see you soon!
Here are just a few of our favorite photos from 2016! Cheers to YOU!
i will & i do
I know what you might be thinking...Do I only visit lighthouses when I leave the house in the winter? The answer is...most of the time! When Willow needs a nap and it's just not happening, I pop her in the car and we head out for a nice long drive. Today, we ended up at Sankaty Lighthouse. It was a beautiful, sunny day and if it hadn't been for the wind, it might have felt like spring! Driving around in the winter is cathartic - not many people on the roads and I usually always notice something I've never noticed before. I love our drives and I love winter on Nantucket.
It's my favorite Nantucket lighthouse and we finally decided to make the drive out to see the seals and let Willow explore a little. It's about a 45 minute drive from our house to the point, which is probably the longest drive we ever make on this little island. It's worth every minute when you pull up to the amazing city of seals! Here are a few shots from our trip. We're planning to head back out tomorrow to find some snowy owls!
