A Community of Inspiration

As I was falling asleep last night I started to think about the last 7 days and the experiences I’ve had this week. I met so many strong, brave and talented women and caught up with a few of my favorite local Nantucket small business owners. I’m going to share a little bit about the week and what these brilliant women are up to!

I started the week off with Caroline Ott, one of the sweetest women I know and I am NOT just saying that! Caroline is starting a Nantucket Wedding Planning company this May! I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am for her and her new endeavor! You will soon be able to check out her website and what she’ll be up to this summer! Her launch date is May 1st and I might just stay up for it – I am THAT excited! Caroline’s sister, Emily, owns the lovely Milly & Grace down on Washington Street. I think there is some magic within these sisters. Everything they touch comes to life, sparklers and shines. Nantucket weddings are in for an upgrade! Brides, SAVE THE DATE! (I will share more details as soon as I have them!)

The next afternoon was spent with the lovely Meg Blair-Valero, owner of Fogged In Bookkeeping. We took some detail shots for her new website coming soon and then headed downtown for some lifestyle photos and a coffee at Handlebar Cafe. It was a rainy grey lady day but that didn’t stop us! Fogged In is just one of the many businesses Meg runs. She is a force to be reckoned with and an all-around amazing woman. I feel so lucky to know her and call her a friend!

45 Surfside, a new cafe on the way to the beach was the next stop. I met Portia and her Mother Rebecca, owner of the Bakery/Cafe. I have been frequenting this new spot for coffees, cupcakes, breakfast, and lunch so what a pleasure it was to meet these sweet ladies for some detail shots of the space and their specialties, like their brand new Icey Surfside Mocha Coffee. I haven’t tried their cakes yet but I’m looking for any excuse to throw a party just so I can order one.

Friday and Saturday I photographed the Brand Human Nantucket event at the Nantucket Hotel. I don’t even know where to start for this one. I, of course, was there to work but couldn’t help absorb the creativity that was flowing throughout the ballroom. There were about 50 attendees and these 48 ladies and 2 men were the real deal. Everyone was there to hear from Jasmine Takinikos, founder and CEO of Jasmine Takinikos Consulting Group and creator of the global workshop and lecture series Brand Human and Holly Finigan, founder of Nantucket blACKbook. The event had a full lineup of successful entrepreneurs including Jeannie Vincent from Follain, and Jason Bridges from Handlebar & Nantucket Bike Tours. It was a time of learning, reflecting, bouncing ideas off one another and challenging ourselves. I am truly grateful to have been a part of this event with such an inspiring group of creatives!

Sunday was the grand finale with the ladies of Grey Lady Revelry Co., a new event planning company based in Boston serving Nantucket and beyond. They had arranged a styled shoot at the lovely Greydon House. They did all of the planning and preparing. They managed to secure an ALL-STAR lineup with Emily Denny of Emily Nantucket doing hair & makeup, the lovely Dorothy Stover as our bride and the handsome Delroy Lawrence as our groom. Megan Fahy Calligraphy created a gorgeous invitation suite and jewelry was provided by Jewel In The Sea. More details to come on this magical shoot. Keep an eye out for the launch of the GLR website!

I don’t usually share my weekly happenings in such detail but as I mentioned before when I recapped the week I realized what an incredible group of women business owners I had the pleasure of working with and I just had to write about it!  All of them, in their own unique ways, inspire me in different areas of my life and I am truly grateful to know them!
